HAIRSTYLES FOR WORK

Professional blonde woman with long hair working in an open-plan office

If you’re back in the office more frequently these days, you’ll know that the morning routine (and commute) can be a bit stressful at times. One way to make the start of your day a little easier and less fraught is by opting for a quick and easy office hairstyle. Despite these styles taking minimum effort and time, you’ll still look and feel the part.

Whether your hair is long or short, there are plenty of easy styles you can try that are suitable for the office or post-work drinks.

Work hairstyles for long hair

Smooth, sleek ponytail

Updos are a simple and versatile style that look just as good in formal and informal settings. If your hair is long, you could try a low bun or ponytail for a cool and sophisticated look, which requires minimal effort and time.

How to get a long ponytail:
  • Create a centre parting and brush your hair behind your ears
  • Hold your hair in place and slip a hairband (or scrunchie) over the ponytail, fasting it semi-tightly
  • Smooth through and bumps with a spritz of hairspray on a comb, and comb towards the base of your ponytail

Low bun

The low bun is a slightly more elegant take on the ponytail. It’s also easy to revert between these two hairstyles; just release your bun and comb through your lengths to switch to a sleek ponytail.

How to get a low bun:
  • Follow the steps above to make a long ponytail, then twist your ponytail from the bottom and keep twisting until your locks start to lift
  • Wrap around the base of your ponytail and secure this with a hair tie, bobby pins or a clip
  • Clean up any flyaways using our Secret Agent Touch Up Crème to smooth away any stray hairs

Work hairstyles for short hair

If you have shorter hair, you can also get a professional look easily and quickly - and our favourite office hairstyles for shorter hair don’t take too much time to master.

Half-up ponytail

For a neater take on the pony which works well for shorter styles, try the half-up pony. It keeps your hair out of your face, and you can also wind your ponytail into a bun for a more put-together look.

How to get a half-up ponytail:
  • Separate and section off the top half of your hair above your ears, gently pulling all your locks up to the crown of your head
  • Ensure both sides of your hair are even, using a brush or comb to help achieve straight sectioning
  • Brush underneath this top section to remove any bumps
  • Secure your half ponytail at the base with a hair tie
  • For a sleeker style, simply pull the ponytail firmly till it’s tight and high
  • For a more laid-back and slightly messy hairstyle, gather and secure the top half of your hair loosely and pull down a few face-framing hairs to soften the look
You can curl the bottom section of your hair and hold it in place with Moisture Barrier Intense Hold Hairspray or leave it natural.

If you have finer hair or any loose flyaways, we recommend using our Frizz Ease All-in-1 Lightweight Serum or Weightless Wonder Crème to finish off your look.

Slick and straight

A slick and straight look is professional, glam and versatile, whilst being quick to style and easy to maintain. It’s perfect for post-work drinks and takes just minutes to perfect.

How to get a slick, straight style:
  • Dampen or wet your hair with water then dry it gently with a towel
  • Apply Volume Lift Thickening Mousse to the mid-lengths and ends whilst your hair’s damp
  • Blow-dry your hair away from your face, sectioning ear to ear and placing the hairdryer at the root to ensure you create a slick look that’s still full of volume - be sure to glide your hairdryer from the front of your head to the back so that your hair is all following the same direction
  • Once your hair has dried, use hairspray, a wax or crème to tidy away any flyaways around the frame of your face
