GUIDE TO LAMELLAR WATER

Set of John Frieda Silk Water lamellar water hair treatments against a colourful background

You’ve probably heard quite a lot about lamellar water recently - and this much-hyped haircare treatment is your new best friend in the fight against dull, lifeless hair.

Lamellar water is a revolutionary post-shampoo treatment gaining popularity for its ability to transform your hair’s texture and appearance within seconds; here's an in-depth look at what lamellar water is, how it works, its benefits, who can use it, and application tips.

What is lamellar water?

Lamellar water is a lightweight post-shampoo hair rinse designed to deliver targeted conditioning to damaged areas of the hair shaft. Unlike traditional conditioners, it doesn't weigh hair down, making it suitable for nearly all hair types.

Lamellar water feels smooth and light in your hands - like water, but with a slightly slipperier consistency.

How does lamellar water work?

Upon contact with water, the lamellar technology is instantly activated, creating nano-sized, uniform structures. This allows the treatment's ingredients to be distributed much more evenly and uniformly on the hair strands than a regular conditioner, creating an incredibly-conditioned hair feel. Due to the small particle sizes, the film created feels much more lightweight than for a standard conditioner.

This targeted approach repairs dry, damaged hair and smooths the hair cuticle, resulting in softness, shine, and manageability in seconds.

Benefits of using lamellar water

  • Instant results: You’ll notice smoother, glossier hair after just one application.
  • Lightweight conditioning: Lamellar water’s water-like consistency provides hydration without heaviness, helping to maintain volume and avoid weighing delicate strands down.
  • Damage repair: By filling in porous, damaged areas, post-shampoo lamellar treatments strengthen hair and reduce breakage.
  • Reduced tangles and easier brushing: Detangling your hair will become easier, and frizzy, dull hair is left soft, glossy and ready to style.

Who can use post-shampoo lamellar water treatments?

Lamellar water is suitable for a broad spectrum of hair types and conditions:
  • Damaged or chemically-treated hair: Lamellar water rinses are ideal for hair that's been bleached, coloured, or chemically processed, as it helps to repair and strengthen dry hair. 1. Shampoo: Cleanse your hair thoroughly with your favourite John Frieda shampoo.
  2. Apply lamellar water: While your hair is wet, apply a small palmful of the treatment from your mid-lengths to ends. Massage gently for about 8 seconds, working up a light lather.
  3. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse out the product.
  4. Condition dry, damaged hair: If your hair’s damaged and dry, you may need additional moisture; follow with your usual conditioner or a hydrating hair mask.

Should I apply lamellar water to my roots?

We’d advise against applying lamellar water post-shampoo rinses directly to the scalp or roots for several reasons:
  • Scalp sensitivity: Some people may experience irritation if the product comes into contact with their scalp.
  • Product buildup: Product build up might lead to issues which could affect scalp health and hair growth.
  • Weighing down hair: Even though it's lightweight, applying it to the roots may reduce volume, especially in fine hair.
